Missing

The papers and news have had update reports on the continuing search for the missing woman Margaret Fleming. Those who pass the last place she was known to have lived, “Seacroft” on the A78 have over the past 6 months watched the activity at the house and grounds. There is still a police presence there in the first week of May.

Broken panels

Inverkip Station suffered from vandalism at the start of the May weekend. Reports were posted on the Community Council page about it and comments of a very large group of young people getting on the train at Branchton was posted on line.

Trains

Having complained about the old trains being used on the Wemyss Bay line one can perhaps be forgiven in welcoming the sight of the Royal Scotsman. The “old” train complete with Dining cars, Observation car, State cabins has been on the Glasgow Wemyss Bay line at the weekends recently. This is luxury travel.

Fashion Show

St Patricks and St Joseph’s hosted a Fashion Show on Friday May 5. This was raising money for Friends of Ardgowan Hospice.

Christian Aid Week

Both Inverkip and Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay Churches are supporting Christian Aid Week 14 to 20 May. Skelmorlie are planning a coffee morning on the Saturday May 20 and requesting baking and items for their Tombola Stall. Inverkip will have a retiring offering for Christian Aid and host a coffee morning after the Church Service on May 14.

Beach Clean

Members of Inverkip Church Eco group and friends helped at the Beach Clean at Lunderston Bay at the end of April. And they will be doing their own litter picking on Saturday May 13 in Inverkip. Anyone wishing to help is most welcome.

Scout Activity

Scouts from Inverkip and Wemyss Bay have been helping at the Wildflower Garden at Belville Street in Greenock. Over the month of April there was a chance for the young folk to take part in the Personal Challenge Badge Course. This entailed many things such as taking up a new sport of being family cook for a month. Congratulations are due to those who were fund raising and with a sale of their own baking and a sponsored cycle the sum of £400 was raised for charities.

Elections

Candidates for the Local Election have been putting out leaflets during the days before the 4th. Interesting reading when you learn that the old Police Station on Main Street has been sold although there has been no activity there since the Sale Board was removed. The request for a change in the speed on the A78 between Bankfoot and Inverkip will have to have speed cameras if this is passed as there are those who exceed the speed limit on all roads in the area.

The Questionnaire for Inverclyde “Our Place, Our future” is available on line and the survey runs till 30th June. www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/ourPlaceOur Future
