£4m restoration for Wemyss Bay station
Historic Wemyss Bay station will benefit from a much needed £4.4 million cash boost over the next five years.
Network Rail say the funding will primarily be invested in works aimed at renewing the station"s A-listed roof and buildings, now over 100 years old, as fears grow over large sections of the wood-based structure being exposed to the elements.
Rail officials expected that the station"s distinctive 60-foot clock tower would be the first section to benefit.
The funding package was revealed in Network Rail"s latest investment programme, described as 'bigger than at any time since privatisation' and providing 'the necessary infrastructure to run more and longer trains when demand is at its greatest'.
