A Wemyss Bay mum has said goodbye to her hair — and raised £2,500 for a cancer charity as a result.

Catriona Clifford, 29, saw her locks disappear in a bid to generate cash for the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research charity.

The mum-of-two took part in the stunt after being inspired by her two boys’ gran, Gourock woman Maria Cassidy, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in December.

Catriona’s headshave was part of a recent party and fundraising night in Greenock.

And it was her sons Olachan and Dillon Bowie who helped do the honours in front of a packed audience of friends and family cheering her on.

Despite being terrified at the prospect of losing her hair, Catriona says she is now delighted with her new look and is tempted to keep it permanently.

She said: “It’s been easier than I thought. I was scared before the headshave and the build-up made me nervous because you don’t know what you’ll look like.

“I thought I would look like Phil Mitchell but it’s actually amazing. It’s so much easier to manage — I might keep it.” Catriona paid tribute to all her sponsors, everyone who came along on the night and her employers for donating a luxury five-star spa break for a raffle prize.

She added: “Over £2,500 has been raised so far — I’m amazed. I can’t believe the support I’ve had. The night was great — I didn’t even cry. I was worried nobody would turn up and it would’ve been just me and the kids in a room shaving my head, so thanks to everybody who helped and sponsored me.” Catriona has donated her locks to the Little Princess Trust.
