Police discovered a potential £150,000 'cannabis factory' in a quiet neighburhood area of West Kilbride.

Suspicions were raised by Scottish Power because of the large amount of electricity that was being used at the rented property in Well Street, police reports say.

When officers raided the property at 11.50pm on Friday 17 June, a total of 327 plants were seized, valued at between £50,000-150,000.

Inspector Joe Conway of Police Scotland said: "When police got to the property, we cound that nobody was actually staying there, and it had been a property rented out to a Chinese couple. We are making enquiries with the letting agency concerned, and enquiries are continuing."
