May the Firth be with you! The new Firth Pavilion at the Seamill Hydro in West Kilbride not only boasts stunning views of Arran and the Clyde Coast, but now offers a top class wedding and conference facility, after a £10m investment.
One of the family owners, Sylvester Sweeney, spoke with great pride about the dedication and imagination shown in the most ambitious project in the long history of the hotel, at last Friday’s official opening.
Sylvester said: “My mother and father started this venture when they purchased the Hydro in 1984.
“It was a dream - and has been a marathon and not a sprint to reach this stage. We wanted to build it in a way which complemented its Victorian roots, and over the years, we have re-invented the Hydro, and it has grown generically.
“When my family first bought the hotel in 1984, it was four acres of land, and the building was in need of some TLC. My father sold his business in Glasgow, and the whole family came down the coast, and we began the building process, re-building the leisure club, providing a new bistro, and enhancing the bedrooms.
“It became a genuine business, helping to boost the local economy and providing employment. My father retired at 70, and with the reins handed over to us, we re-invented it again, and moved all our offerings to face the sea.”
The Orangery bistro was opened a few years ago, and now the Firth Pavilion - one of Scotland’s finest purpose built wedding venues - has been completed,
Obtaining four star status last year, the Seamill Hydro is moving forward with the latest technological advances to move speedily with the modern times, with improved connectivity embedded in with the latest new technology in lighting, heating, and web access.
Sylvester said: “The designers and landscape architects have done a wonderful job. Thanks must also go to our General Manager Norman Rennie who has been a breathe of fresh air to the business and an ambassador - he almost has the Hydro in his veins and project director George Jones of Amilight Limited, and the team who have been involved from the very inception.”

A glitzy launch party into a live motown music kicked off the Firth Pavilion in style last Friday evening, see photo below.
