The new sport of padel tennis is taking off with a number of players from West Kilbride, Fairlie and Largs enjoying the new sport.

The three court facility at Stevenston Industrial Estate has been opened by West Kilbride man David McCulloch, pictured third from left. The racquet sport is huge in Spain, with an estimated 10 million people playing the sport, but it is relatively new in Scotland (www.ayrshirepadeltennis.com

 And the local man reached the semi-finals of a national padel tournament in Birmingham at the weekend.
David, who lives in Seamill, partnered John Byrne in the over-45s category of the event.
The duo, who both play at the Ayrshire Padel tennis courts at Stevenston Industrial Estate, lost the opening game 6-2, 6-2, but came roaring back in the second match to win 6-1, 6-1.
They won the quarter-final by a similar scoreline, before going down in the semis 1-6, 7-6, and losing 10-6 in the tie-breaker.
A number of Largs, Fairlie and West Kilbride players take part in the Ayrshire Padel rankings including David McCulloch, Andrew Boyle, Crawford Boyd, Malcolm McAulay, Lewis McAulay, Claudio Nardini, Alistair Green, Brian Corrigan, and Calum Corral.
