The lifeboat was called out to assist a yacht with seven people onboard, including children, which was experiencing difficulty off the coastline at West Kilbride
Largs RNLI lifeboat launched on Saturday at 4.16pm after being alerted by the coastguard.
The volunteer crew located a 10 metre power boat, which had four adults and three children onboard, having fouled its propeller and drifting.
Attempts by the crew to free the propeller were hampered by the fresh weather conditions on scene so the decision was made to take the vessel in tow to Ardrossan Marina, the closest safe anchorage.
Assistance was giving in berthing the craft at Clyde Marina, Ardrossan, and onshore support was given by the coastguard.
The lifeboat then returned to Largs and was rehoused at 6.15pm.
* During the weekly exercise on the following day, the crew used the lifeboat’s Direction Finding equipment in an attempt to locate a vessel which was transmitting a continuous carrier wave on Channel 16 VHF which is the International Calling and Safety Channel. This type of event has the potential to prevent safety traffic being received and the RNLI would ask mariners to check their VHF sets are operating correctly.
