The meeting this week at West Kilbride Community Centre was a great success with a display by Margaret Morris entitled "Aspects of Astronomy" .
Margaret is a stamp collector of international renown and has an excellent grasp of her subject, having worked for many years at the observatory of Glasgow University.
In her first round she treated us to items relating to comets, including a newspaper article from 1682 on what was to become known as Halley's Comet , followed by more stamps and covers relating to total eclipses of the Sun. Her second round, drawn from her extensive collection on astronomy, was made up of correspondence, cards and stamps showing astronomical observatories, mainly in Europe. The vote of thanks was given by Ian Smith, who commented that, with such superb material, it was no problem to thank Margaret for bringing her display to us.
