An amazing photo of northern lights at Portencross on Thursday evening, was captured by photographer Peter Ribbeck.
It has proved to be a hit on the Largs News Facebook site with over 600 likes in just a matter of hours, receiving a total of 14,000 views by 3pm.
The photo displays the amazing colours in the sky of the aurora borealis, lighting up the seascape. with the bright lights of Millport in the distance.
Diana McCall said: "This is simply stunning." Former Largs Academy teacher George Crawford said: "Tremendous, Peter. Who needs sleep if you can get stuff like this? Do you think it'll be out tonight?" There was even praise from Sao Paulo in Brazil as the picture went all over the globe via social media sites as Thaty Robbi Muito said: "Lindo! Que inveja!" - which means "Very beautiful! I'm so envious!" Peter Ribbeck said: "I just got the tail end of it. It appeared to be very active yesterday evening and could be seen considerably further south than us. It was gone by about 11pm." "Thank you all very much for all the lovely comments. it's really appreciated."
