You could adopt a Largs, Millport, West Kilbride, Skelmorlie or Fairlie street for a litter clean up under an exciting new environmental project.

Katy Clark, MP for North Ayrshire, has sent a message of support to the fledgling Ayrshire Litter Volunteer Network (ALVN).

The AVLN held its inaugural AGM on 20th January, and agreed the stated aim of building a network of volunteers to help clear up litter from our street. Katy Clark has sent a letter of support to the Chair of the AVLN, David Pugh, congratulating him on the initiative.

Speaking about the Network, Katy said, “This is a fantastic idea which has great potential to benefit to the community. Sadly, not everyone takes responsibility for properly disposing of their own litter and the sight of it lying on our streets and in the local environment is all too common. Not only is this unwanted debris an eyesore, it can also be a real harm to the environment.” “The AVLN are suggesting that local residents ‘adopt a street’ to try and encourage volunteers to look after their own neighbourhoods, and can help with providing equipment and advice for anyone wishing to get involved. At present, AVLN are hoping to secure further funding and launch a website, but in the meantime anyone who is interested should contact the Chair of AVLN, David Pugh, on 07730 392770 or by email on davidpugh.alvn@gmail.com.

There are already a number of extremely successful initiatives locally and I hope that this Network will build on that work.
