On Facebook, Pat McLaughlin said: “We were on our way back to Largs from the airport about 5.45pm think it was a head on from what we could see. It looked like the person in one of the cars was trapped. I passed the ambulance and fire brigade heading down.” Liz McCormack of Largs said: “I was on my way to Ardrossan at that time and have never seen so many flashing light coming both ways. I was diverted through West Kilbride on the way there and back. Cars did not know where they were going on the return at 9pm. The blind leading the blind as there were no diversion signs and it was dark. Thanks to the one driver who took the lead and guided several drivers back to Largs.” Largs woman Claire Samson said: “Traffic Scotland had reported that the road was closed southbound from Rockland Park in Largs - I came from Ardrossan through West Kilbride back roads - and came out at turn-off just before Hunterston.”
