The Rotary Club of Hunterston is pleased to announce that Margaret Park has been chosen as Citizen of the Year 2013 for the West Kilbride area.

Margaret has been involved in voluntary work for a number of organisations in the village over the years, including the Girl Guides, Oxfam, the West Kilbride Nursery and the new war memorial stones, but her pivotal role has been leading the West Kilbride Village Hall from council to local management from 2005 to the present day. Along with Secretary Jacqui Caldwell and a number of key volunteers, she has led the hall through a period of continuous improvement, which involved seeking grants and third party support while still maintaining a good relationship with North Ayrshire Council.

In 2012, the village hall became independent from the WKCILtd and is now busier than ever. Margaret is an example to all with her enthusiasm, zeal and inspiration for West Kilbride and its community, say the Rotary judging panel.

Margaret will be presented with a framed certificate and a cheque for £100 to a charity of her choice at a dinner at the next Rotary meeting in Seamill Hydro on Wednesday April 2 at 6.45pm for 7pm. Anyone wishing to have dinner and/or see the presentation, please contact Jim Jackson on WK 823502. The cost of the buffet dinner is £11.
