After the success of the 2014 Brazil World Cup, a new samba band group is being set up in West Kilbride to recapture the rhythm and highly danceable sounds of the tournament.
Local man Robin Parker said: “I used to bring my school samba band to play at the West Kilbride late night in November each year and the responses from a number of residents convinced me that there might be enough interest to start a band somewhere between the three towns and Largs so as I live there West Kilbride picked itself.
“Brazilian drumming and the infectious rhythms are relatively easy for complete beginners to pick up and indeed I would claim anyone can find an instrument to suit them unlike many other forms which can demand a high degree of proficiency just to start.
“The highly danceable sounds at the last World Cup are a great example of how much people are attracted to the form and it’s use. Scotland’s top Samba band Sambayabamba are regularly invited to play at the Largs Viking festival for a closer to home example.” The classes are on from 7-9pm every Wednesday starting on 3 September.
