Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will continue improvements on the A78 with a weekend resurfacing programme at Carlung Farm, near West Kilbride.

With the surface of this section of major trunk road coming to the end of its operational life, it will be necessary for Scotland TranServ to carry out work over the weekend of Saturday 13th to Monday 15th September.

The works are to begin late on Saturday evening and re-open before the drive to work on Monday morning (8pm Saturday 13th September to 6am Monday 15 September). Because the A78 is relatively narrow in this area, it will be necessary to close the road and implement a local diversion route. Traffic will be diverted from Chapelhill Roundabout to Dalry and the Hourat, Kilbirnie, to the A760 into Largs. Access to Thirdpart Holdings from Portencross on the A78 will be restricted. The road back into West Kilbride will be unaffected.

There is also an option for a single overnight closure on the Monday night should any further work be required.

Road closure is necessary during this short period of time in order to protect the health and safety of workers and of the travelling public, say Transerv.

They advise the diversion from the Largs end to be the reverse of their advice, but local motorist will know of other diversions from the outskirts of West Kilbride through the village.
