Traffic plan - they've missed the bus

AT LAST...the Largs town centre traffic improvements get underway next week when you will see the diggers, workmen, traffic cones et al in Main Street.
There will be three weeks of work, involving one weekend when access to Morrison's supermarket will be one-way down Irvine Road.
Having seen the plans and heard the details I can understand why it is costing Transport Scotland £250,000 but one thing mystifies me. Why is it costing North Ayrshire Council £140,000 to do very little physical work.
Here is what the council told me: "We intend to invest in the region of £140,000 in the new Largs Traffic Management scheme. This will include the implementation of one-way systems in a number of streets in Largs with associated signage and line markings.
"There is also work planned at Hyndman Green, which will include surfacing works and kerbing, and we are in discussion with Transport Scotland about the possibility of raised junction tables at various points within the town centre."
Let's see what work the council do at a cost of £140,000. It certainly won't be anything that eases the congestion at the Harlequin Cafe bus stop. See the above picture.
The excuse for not going ahead with the bus stance outside the railway station is, at the last minute, health and safety. Could it be that cost-cutting is the real answer?
