Inverclyde Sports Centre in Largs received some high profile international gymnasts from South Korea who benefitted from training at the state-of-the-art facilities.

The South Korean National Gymnastics Association contacted sportscotland prior to the Worlds Gymnastics Championships being held at the Hydro in Glasgow.

The group training were the Korean men’s national Juniors and event specialists. Apparently the University where they are based in Korea is the top gym for producing gymnasts and the majority of the current Korean team come from their university.

They accompanied the Senior Korean men’s team as part of their development programme for the juniors and specialists.

The internationalists trained at Inverclyde Sports Centre from Monday 26 October to Monday 2 November from 10-4 each day.

Gymnastics Development Manager Allan McKinnon said:" On the final day we exchanged gifts with the Koreans which gave us an opportunity to take some photos with some staff and our own gymnasts. We presented them with a friendship quaich and a fine bottle of Loch Lomond whisky.

"They presented us with their Korean Gymnastics association flag and gave out badges and Korean federation towels and memorabilia.

We also hosted a group from Halifax, Canada who were gymnasts from the Club of Ellie Black who fished a fine 7th in the all around woman’s artistic competition. Ellies Father and brother were at the centre and were understandably very proud.

"On speaking to both groups they were extremely complimentary of the welcome and friendliness of everyone they met at the centre and equally complimentary of the fantastic gymnastics facilities which had been upgraded prior to the 2014 Commonwealth Games."
