Largs Thistle 2 Yoker Athletic 1.

Thistle's early goal came from a high-flying Gary Phillips free kick around forty yards out on the right hand side, and it was neatly floated on to the head of Creag Little who nodded the ball purposefully into the top right hand corner of the net.

It was a terrific header, and it really gave Largs the impetus they have been looking for, and they really took the game to Yoker in these early stages.

A short Yoker back pass allowed speedy James Marks to pick up the scraps and he raced on past the keeper to the left hand byeline but his cross-come-shot was cleared off the line.

There was some silky interlinking play with Phillips at the heart of some of the best moves.

Santos, Fleming, and Marks combined in one such passage of play which released Phillips down the right and his dangerous cross was desperately cleared by a Yoker defender.

Largs also looked like they had a good call for a penalty after Yoker defender on the ground appeared to handle a Marks cross into the box.

But Yoker equalised near the half-hour, and it was a bolt out of the blue, as Yoker had barely registered a meaningful attack, never mind a shot on target. A quick break down the right, and a pacey cross from Rankin, found Jones to power home a header from five yards.

Thistle had a goal ruled out, as both sides went in at the break level pegging, but there was a nagging feeling that Largs should have had an advantage.

Largs pushed ahead after a dangerous corner was headed on by Little to Sean Pierce who managed to finish off the move to make it 2-1.

Moments later, another great move down the right released Mathew Santos who whipped in a shot which was brilliant parried over the bar.

And again the Yoker keeper Campbell came to the rescue to deny Alan Gilbride's point blank header from a corner which seemed a certain goal.

Thistle kept working hard to try and get an opening but Yoker too managed to get in a few shots, and Lundy managed to block a dangerous angled shot.

And as the match petered out at the end, another Yoker attack, and hit and hope effort was well saved by Lundy who smothered the ball.

There is no doubting that Thistle were the most dominant side, but due to outstanding keeping from the opposing keeper, the slender margin meant that Yoker were always in this game, and Largs had to roll their sleeves up and battle for maximum points.

After a challenging month for Thistle with cup exits, and a draw against basement boys, Thistle are back on the wagon, and building up speed.

Getting over the finishing line was the most important thing, and now Largs have gone 16 games unbeaten in the league, and are three points clear in the Premier, with a game in hand.

Thistle are in good fettle as they head into the harsh winter period of fixtures.
