The tennis season is underway, with doubles league matches and kids coaching all underway.

However, Largs Tennis Club have not had the use of Douglas Park as yet which is still getting prepared, and should be open next week.

Secretary Gavin Maclellan said: "I met with a representative from North Ayrshire Council on Monday to get an update on the courts at Douglas Park. They will not be ready for our matches this week but they hope to have them ready for next week.

"The council are working hard to prepare the courts and plan to roll them, remove the dilapidated hitting wall, re-tension the fence behind court 3 and remove the obstructive bush at the gate. They are also trying to source new lines for all three club courts."

Instead, the club have been using the all weather courts at Inverclyde Sports Centre during recent weeks. Largs Ladies 1 team got an opening win of the season at home to Coylton 2 in straight set victories, while Largs 2 team beat Ayr Carrick by eight sets to one. Largs Gents 1 side suffered an opening day defeat at Coylton 2, but Largs 2 Gents managed to get a victory at home to Stewarton 4.

The Gents are home on Thursday of this week against Prestwick 3, and the second team are at Troon 4.

Children's tennis is re-starting at Douglas Park as of next week on Tuesday evenings from 4-5pm for P1-4, and P5-S1 - all welcome. Coach Neil Jones has just passed his level 2 LTA tennis coaching course.
