Largs Thistle boss Bryan Slavin is confident the club have what it takes to bounce back in the crucial league game over Greenock on Saturday, after a surprise 4-0 reversal to Irvine Vics in the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup on Wednesday.

The 2nd round shocker could have been worse as Vics squandered a range of opportunities in the first half, although Thistle's chances were not helped by a dubious penalty decision in the second half and a goalkeeping blunder, resulting in two goals in quick succession.

Bryan said: "I feel frustration more than anything else after the game but we just need to get on with it. We had ripped the spine out of the team to give everyone a run out.

"We took Graham Muir and Gary Fleming out of the midfield, and myself and Alan Gilbride out of defence, and Kevin and Slick (James Marks) and with everyone coming back for the Greenock game, I am confident we can go and win on Saturday."

"There were more than a few who were well under par and we have to take that on the chin. There were some bad mistakes from us, and a couple of decisions by the referee, but above and beyond that, we can't have any excuses from our point of view.

"The players dropped their standards very badly, but we will write it off and put it behind us, and I'd like to think there will be a strong reaction on Saturday, in fact it is imperative for us to react as we would fall behind the rest of the pack if we lose to Greenock."

It is a 2pm kick-off on Saturday against Greenock at Barrfields.Largs have been given Winton at home on Monday in the league, 7.15pm kick-off, and finish their league campaign on the following Saturday at Kilsyth.

"The players have been told about doing the right things, and giving us a good platform, but Wednesday night's defeat was a good example of not doing the basics right and getting caught out.

"The only up side is that we don't need to play a quarter final next Wednesday and we can rest our legs and have a light training session with a view to the following Saturday."

"We will put the Vics game down to an anomaly in essence. If anything, I expect it to have a positive bearing on Saturday as the players will be desperate to show that they are a lot better than that."
