Largs Thistle assistant boss Stuart Davidson believes that there were positives to take from their two friendlies - with potential signings for next season.

Thistle drew with Fauldhouse United on Saturday but were turned over 4-1 by a young St Mirren side on Monday evening, and don't play again until Thursday 28 July against Greenock Morton, 7.15pm kick-off at home.

Stuart said: "The disappointing thing is that we stood off St Mirren in the first half, but we got closer in the second, and competed a bit better and stopped them from playing. I am pleased we got a reaction. I think there was a bit of tiredness from Saturday's game. I thought Kevin Struthers put in a great shift after 90 minutes on Saturday, and he linked up well with new signing Robert Love. Robert had only just returned from Mexico on holiday, and was only supposed to play part of the game, but ended up playing all of it!

"Matt Bennett has signed for us, after featuring for Kilbirnie last season. He works as a window cleaner, and fell off his ladder, and had some problems with the bottom of his back, but I thought he showed a good bit of attacking and link-up play, and will be an important player for us.

"Full back Laurie McMaster did well and definitely impressed, as did Chris Littler - and both of them were with Glentyan U21s last season, and have been with Raith Rovers previously. They have good ability and potential, and if they get their fitness up and keep impressing, they could be potential signings.

"The three boys who came from Thistle U19s Rafferty, Traynor and Reid, also did themselves no harm, and and 16 year old Hambleton also caught the eye. It is good to see some of these players coming from the Largs Thistle community club set-up, and it will good to keep an eye on their progress."

The Thistle assistant boss stated that the club were still looking to bolster the midfield, and bring in another striker, and said: "As long as we have a squad together for the start of the league season, I won't be too worried."

Another player on Thistle's radar is keeper Sean Graham. Stuart said: "He didn't do much wrong, and wasn't really able to do much with the goals. The 2nd goal was a bit of a screamer, but Sean felt he should have saved it, and that is a good sign that he has high standards."
