Largs Thistle assistant boss Arnie (Stuart Davidson) is looking for the Barrfields men to get off the mark with a friendly win in their forthcoming matches.
Thistle host Greenock Morton U20s on Thursday, 7.15pm kick off, before travelling to Perth to play Jeanfield Swifts on Saturday, 2pm kick-off (a bus is leaving Barrfields at 10.45am - to book a seat, contact Peter on 07512 706478).
Trialists can only play three games, including friendlies, giving Arnie, an opportunity to cast his eye over full-backs Laurie McMaster and Chris Littler, who have both impressed in the friendlies so far. Sean Graham is expected to feature in goal for both fixtures, and midfielder Glenn Thomson, after suffering a long term injury, signed up for the new season this week.
Last week, Largs drew 1-1 with Fauldhouse United, before suffering a 4-1 rout to St Mirren.
Arnie said: "I am expecting the Morton match to be similar to our recent St Mirren game - they will have a young and fit team and it will be competitive. It will be a week further down the line than St Mirren, and I hope we will be fitter and sharper compared to the first half of the St Mirren game, and get closer to them.
"On Saturday, we go to Jeanfield Swifts and they are a decent team through in the east, and it will be a good day out and a bonding exercise with the players. We are just hoping to pick up some results now. We want to get a win under our belt in the pre-season, with competition coming back into the squad with players coming back."
Largs are also looking at bringing in more trialists for the forthcoming games including a former Kilmarnock player, who will feature in midfield. Ciaran Friels, who missed the end of last season due to an ankle injury, broke down after only ten minutes play in the St Mirren match, but is also expected to return.
Thistle are hoping to welcome back a number of players back to the squad from holiday including Larry McMahon, James Marks, Gary Fleming, Nicky Jamieson, and Jamie McDonald.
Arnie believes Thistle will have a squad of 16 ready for the Ardagh Cup opener at home to Kilwinning on Saturday 6 August.
Largs have also brought in a fitness coach in Davie Gemmill, who is a head lecturer at West of Scotland University, to provide some additional training in the build-up for the new season.
* Midfielder Gary Phillips who has moved on to pastures new at Arbroath, has thanked everyone at 'Theesel' for all their support.
He said: "Thank you to the fans and everyone involved at the club for their support over last season. It was great to be part of promotion, and glad to see the club back up where they belong. All the best for the season ahead."
* Largs Thistle are hosting their AGM within their hospitality cabin at Barrfields Park on Thursday 11 August, starting at 7.30pm. And three days later, the Largs Thistle Community Club are hosting the annual Thistle Tour of Cumbrae on Sunday 14 August.
It will follow the same format as last year's event where supporters, players, management and committee come together and have the option of walking around the 10.5 mile circumference of Cumbrae, or cycling.
