The Largs Thistle community came out in force on Sunday to take part in some fundraising fun round the Isle of Cumbrae.

Members of the committee, supporters and Thistle U14s all took part in the event which is in its sixth year, and has again raised hundreds of pounds for 'Theesel'.

Calum Corral, who has organised the event for six years, said: "Thankfully the weather gods were kind once more. The only year in which it rained was during the very first year, and other than that, it has been excellent.

"It was good to see all ages involved, and we even had some supporters cheering us on in Millport which is always good to see! Everybody always looks forward to the trip, and despite some sore feet at the end of the big walk, it certainly proved worthwhile. Well done for everyone who took part, and all our sponsors."

Thistle turned the island gold and black for a day in the fundraiser which started as a cycle only event in 2011, but is now open to both walkers and cyclists.

Over the years, Thistle legends, management, players, and supporters have taken part, and Calum said: "It proves to always be a good bonding exercise for the club, and it is always a great way to kick off the new season!"

Committee man Tommy Scoullar was one of the supporters of the event who made it across, and the octogenarian told the 'News' that he has not missed any of the Thistle Tour of Cumbraes since the fun event was launched, and always enjoys the fun camaraderie on the day.
