Largs Thistle boss Bryan Slavin has laid down an ultimatum to his players to improve their performances.

This comes after a desperately disappointing display at Cumnock, leaving Largs propping up the Premier League, with only two goals scored, and eight conceded, after three games played.

Thistle play Kilwinning Rangers at Barrfields in a 2pm kick-off, and a win is crucial for both sides who are at the bottom end of the McBookie.com Premier Division.

Bryan said: "I am struggling to find a good performance from Saturday's game, we really didn't kick a ball in earnest, and we didn't look good going forward or defensively, so much so that even Cumnock can beat us 4-0.

"The chances dried up after Robert Love's only attempt at target. We can point to the fact that we didn't defend well, but we have only scored one goal from open play in the last three games and that causes us a bit of concern. There is a tendency to over-react in these situations and give it the whole sky is falling down sort of ideology.

"It was a bad day and we need to focus on the next game and try and sort out the positional issues which cost us on Saturday."

"We never got close enough to their players. It is a simple enough game - if there is an opponent near you, you go and mark him until you win the ball.

"Something now is going to have to give - either something changes or I change at the end of the day. We have been saying the same thing to the same folk for so long now. Either they go or I go - it is getting to that stage after three defeats. If things don't get any better, I need to look at my own position and what we are doing. There are a lot of things to mull over after Saturday's defeat."

"It makes it doubly hard to be beaten by Cumnock - when you stand off any teams you are in trouble. It was completely unforgivable on Saturday, and we have to look and see what has to be changed."

However, the Thistle boss is confident that Largs can turn things round in their massive encounter against Kilwinning.

Bryan said: "We need to try and find a team that is willing to put in a shift. We can talk till we are blue in the face about tactics, but if you don't want to compete against your opponent, you are as well chucking it. If we don't win the game, it gives us bigger problems to deal with. I am more than confident the boys can do it. When we are good, we are good, but when we are bad, we are really bad. Even if not playing well, we should be battling for everything, winning headers, and booting the ball out of the park if defending.

"If we have any more bad displays, we could find ourselves in a very bad situation."

Thistle's midfielder Gary Fleming is still struggling with a shoulder injury, and Jamie McDonald has been struggling with a calf problem, but Nicky Jamieson will be back available after missing work commitments.

Bryan is missing Saturday's game as he is heading to Italy on Saturday for a wedding,. He said: "I thought it was a free week for us, like at this stage last season, but we have been given the fixture against Kilwinning. We then have Blantyre at home in the Scottish. It is a hard one, specially with the results we have been getting. We will take Saturday against Kilwinning on board first and see where we are positioned."
