Largs Thistle had their work cut out at times in a tough first half at Troon but put in a brighter showing in the second half, and nearly snatched a draw.

After Troon scored twice in a dominant first half, Thistle fought back with an early second half goal from James Marks and the game was on knife-edge. However, it was the Portland Park side who grabbed a decisive third goal.

Troon opened in dominant fashion with an early opportunity and won a penalty on 10 minutes after concerted pressure, but Largs keeper Ross Lundy guessed correctly and beat the ball away to safety - watch below clip

Largs will feel that Troon's first goal was very much self inflicted as they had two opportunities to clear the ball to kingdom come but Troon pressure paid off as Spence converted from close range on the half hour mark.

The home side scored again moments later after a high free kick from the left was launched into the box and Scott Chatham finished off the move.

Largs had calls for a penalty kick denied by the referee after James Marks went down under a challenge, which irked player boss Bryan Slavin.

Ever dangerous winger Moore teed up Forsyth whose shot was partially blocked by Lundy and dramatically cleared off the line by Creag Little.

Midfielder Glenn Thomson tucked a swerving free kick just wide of the left post as the interval left Largs with an uphill challenge in the second half.

But soon into the next 45, Largs halved the deficit after James Marks managed to head on a curling free kick into the box.

Thistle were actually managing to get the upper hand with Marks and Thomson having chances to equalise, but Troon effectively ended the contest after latching on to a kick-out from Lundy, and worked the ball down the right. Lundy managed to block the first effort but Mark Curragh blasted home the rebound.

It was a frustrating way to lose the game and arguably against the run of play with Thistle seemingly pushing for an equaliser, and Troon appearing to be rocking.

There was a lot of sweat and toil that went into this encounter, and like the Arthurlie game the week before, Largs were gaining the upper hand, but let it slip away at the end.
