"Now is the time to turn our season around"

Thistle boss Stuart Davidson has praised the spirit and determination of his players after last weekend's sensation victory, and wants more of the same against Troon, 1.45pm kick-off at Barrfields on Saturday.

Largs are hoping to build on their dramatic 4-3 victory over Arthurlie, who themselves had defeated Troon 3-0 earlier this month. But the South Ayrshire side bounced back to get a dramatic last gasp victory against Kilwinning, and they will no doubt provide a formidable threat.

But as far as the Thistle management is concerned, it is all about how Largs play, and after beating Arthurlie with only nine men, have renewed belief going forward.

Stuart said: "What a match - it is not really a game that managers enjoy but I suppose it was good for the spectators as it was very eventful. It would be better for a manager if we win 3-0, but when you have not won a game all season, we will take it.

"As we kept going ahead in the game, Arthurlie kept leaving spaces. Reduced to nine men, we felt we needed to get the ball into areas were we could work off through set pieces and throw ins, and that is how we got the second goal. The character we showed was great, and off late, we have been putting in good performances, but maybe not got the breaks, but we certainly earned our luck on Saturday

"The referee added five or six minutes, I don't understand why but it just made it harder for us, we went close with a few opportunities, and Ross Lundy made a couple of good saves, and they put a couple wide."

Summing up, Stuart said: "Eight games beat is really not good enough, and everyone has us down, and fair enough, of course people are going to say that looking at the league table and results, so we can't complain about that, but what we can do is make a fight of it, and before Saturday, we said to the boys that we have two home games in a row,

"And now we have that first win under our belts, it is all down to the Troon game, and see if we can get a positive result to pull us closer to the crowd.  If we are going to turn our season round, then now is the time to do it, and give ourselves a fighting chance."

The Largs boss said he felt the two red cards that the side suffered against Arthurlie were unduly harsh, but his side refused to get downbeat, and kept pressing throughout. He added that defender Eddie Walton, a surprise selection after featuring for the side twice already in his career, could be a new signing to help provide some important experience for his young side.
