Bellfield Lochan 1-4 Largs Thistle AFC
Largs secured another important three points in the Division Two promotion chase, bouncing back from a goal down to win in some style.
With the heavy park having a big influence, neither side was able to find a good rhythm to their play in the opening stages.
The hosts took the lead ten minutes before the break when a loose ball was seized on by a Bellfield striker, who finished well from close range.
Some stern words at half-time, and the introduction of Reece Clark, seemed to have the desired effect, as Largs equalised in the first minute of the second half. Some good link-up play set McMunn free on the right channel. The winger’s cross was met by Robb, who made no mistake from close range. The striker almost added a second within minutes, but his lobbed finished dropped just over the cross bar.
Cunningham and his back line were in no mood to concede again, with Connor, Turley, Mitchell and Dunlop, who was sitting in front of the defence, all making a number of key interventions.
Largs were looking increasingly threatening on the attack, and they took the lead midway through the second half. A Russell corner kick sailed over the Bellfield goalkeeper and seemed to be met by the heads of Dunlop and McGowan simultaneously to force the ball over the line. A healthy discussion (and a post-match toss-of-a-coin) saw the goal awarded to McGowan.
Crucially, Largs added a third goal almost immediately when Russell  slid the ball past the Bellfield goalkeeper.
A couple of close-range set pieces had Largs panicking but the game was put beyond doubt when Russell added his second goal of the afternoon. Collecting the ball at the corner of the 18-yard-box, the midfielder sent a curling shot over the ‘keeper and into the top corner of the net.
This Saturday, the local side host Drongan in the league. Kick-off is at 2pm with venue TBC.
