Thistle boss Stuart Davidson has labelled this Saturday’s game against Kilbirnie a ‘must win’ as they head into their final five league games of the season.
But in reality, every game from here on in is a must win, added the manager, as they attempt another audacious bid to avoid the drop, two seasons after overcoming the odds.
It is a 2pm kick-off at Barrfields Park and Largs hope to welcome back Creag Little and Gary Fleming from injury, although Alan Gilbride is still out with a torn hamstring.
Stuart said: “I think looking at it now, every game is a must win. We can’t rely on Kilwinning or Troon, and it is especially important we concentrate on our home games. I was at the Kilbirnie match at Pollok on Saturday, and despite it being 1-1, I was very impressed with Ladeside.
“We had one of our poorest performances of the season against Kilbirnie earlier this season, and we lacked the usual fight and character, which was surprising. However, we have shown plenty of that desired effort in recent weeks. It won’t be a revenge match, but we want to go out to prove that we are not far aware from these teams.”
“Kilbirnie are solid at the back and quite physical and they have strong wide players. They are strong all over the park so we will need to be at our best.”
“But I believe after our draw and win on penalties over Beith that we can be a match for anybody.”
“After the 90 minutes was up against Beith, I spoke to the boys, I told them that I was really pleased with the effort shown no matter what happened in the penalty shoot-out, and that seemed to relax them, and we went on to score all five penalties.
“I have been reminding the players this week how well we have done and that they have shown great character, and we must continue to do the same.”
The Thistle boss was also pleased to sign Adam P McKeen and Caleb Reid on dual contracts with the Largs Thistle U19s.
Arnie said: “We have been a bit short in the squad and it is great for the U19s to have come in to the squad in some of the recent games, and hopefully some of that good experience will rub off on them in future.”
Stuart had a busy weekend as after attending the Pollok v Kilbirnie match, he headed to the Thistle U19s clash at St Cadoc’s.
