Largs Thistle U16s 3 Valspar 2
Largs made it a total of 13 wins on the spin at a sun drenched Inverclyde Sports Centre.
Valspar came into the game on the back of ending league leaders Crosshouse hundred percent record.
The Ayr team shocked Thistle when they took the lead after only five minutes. A corner from the Valspar right was swung in and a free header from six yards put the home side behind.
Largs then upped the pace of the game and with some attractive flowing football created numerous chances which they were unable to capitalize on.
Parity was restored on the half hour when skipper Cammy Florence advanced from his centre back berth and fired a shot from twenty five yards across the keep and into the far corner of the net.
Just before the half time whistle, Thistle took the lead when a fluent passing movement released Iain Bell down the right wing. His cross was gathered by Robert Jack at the far post. Jack beat two defenders and his driven cross was met first time at the back post by Bell.
The second half of the game turned into a physical affair with tackles flying in and bookings a plenty.
Valspar got back on level terms ten minutes from the end when a shot from distance hit the inside of the post and went in.
Not to be out done Largs showed great character and pressed forward looking for the winner.
Their endeavours were rewarded two minutes from the end when David Griffins bulldozed his way into the penalty area, only to be upended as he prepared to shoot.
From the resultant penalty, Florence took the captains responsibility and kept his nerve to sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.
Manager Ally Burns said: ““The boys showed superb character and fight when needed and thoroughly deserved their win”
