This Sunday is set for the rescheduled annual Cumbrae-Largs swim for Gillian's Saltire Appeal

The event will take place on Sunday September 24. Times given on the official Facebook page is between 12 midday and 5pm. The swim is due to officially begin at 2.30pm/3pm.

Event spokeswoman Nicola Love said: "On Sunday 10th September the 12th annual swim from Cumbrae to Largs was scheduled to take place in aid of Gillian's Saltire Appeal.  72 swimmers had entered and trained hard for the 1.7 mile open water swim.

"However, unfortunately due to the weather the swim had to be cancelled by the organisers for the first time in 12 years!

"A lot of people including participants and the organisers were disappointed by this but at the end of the day safety of the swimmers always comes first.  It really is amazing that for the previous 11 years the weather has not been an issue! It really is a miracle when you think of how unreliable Scottish weather is."

Hopefully, the weather gods will be kind this weekend, with funds raised for the Saltire Appeal which provides respite through seaside accommodation in Largs and Millport for people recovering from cancer.
