Largs are looking to get their first league victory since the end of September as they travel to basement boys Maryhill on Saturday, 1.45pm kick-off at Lochburn Park.

Thistle boss Stuart Davidson is expecting a tough encounter in the west end of Glasgow but is buoyed by the club's victory over Bellshill in the West of Scotland Cup.

Stuart said: "Maryhill is going to be a tough game - we took a few goals off them in the first game of the season,  and they will be wanting to do something about that. There were a few wee battles that day. We need to be ready and well prepared."

Indeed, Largs won 4-1 against Maryhill at a time when the Barrfields side were in good form, having had a strong Ardagh Cup campaign.

But now, Thistle have gone seven weeks without a league win, due to cup matches, indifferent league form, and the junior international weekend.Thistle's last league win came against Kello on 30 September.

Largs will be hoping that they can build on the momentum generated by the victory over Bellshill which yielded some quality goals.

Stuart said:  "It looked convincing on the scoreline, but  Bellshill made it very hard for us, and fought right to the very end. It was all about getting into the second round and we achieved that.

"We were wanting to get a clean sheet, as we have been losing too many goals lately, and unfortunately Martin Orr turned one of their crosses into the net. That happens sometimes, but I was delighted to get the win."

Explaining the changes to the defence with Martin Orr and Liam McVey coming in as full-backs, with Alan Gilbride and Creag Little in centre, Stuart said: "We have been losing three goals a game  on average over the last four games, so I felt things had to change a bit, and I thought we looked solid at the back, so that is something we will look at for Maryhill.

"There were some great finishes. Alex McWatters' free kick was super, and he nearly did it again in the second half, and Scott Adams' header. It was important for us to get ahead early, as they gave us a right fight, so it was important to have a good cushion.

"I was disappointed not to get any more goals in the second half but that is all down to Bellshill as they worked really hard and restricted us."

Maryhill have yet to win a game in the West of Scotland First Division, but have steadied the ship after conceding a high number of goals in the early games, and have secured five draws.
