Cambuslang Rangers 0 Largs Thistle 3

Six points out of six against Cambuslang in recent games has put Largs in a good position in the promotion race.

They now know that two wins from their final two league games - when ever they will be played - will guarantee promotion back to the top flight.

And Stuart Davidson's side certainlly impressed in this long awaited league fixture, originally planned for early February, but re-arranged.
After an even first half, Thistle really stepped up the gears to put in a terrific showing and played some dazzling link-up play to really leave Cambuslang chasing shadows at times.
It was the home side who made some of the early running with John Gemmell putting in a good curling effort.
Gemmell turned provider for Dale Simeon to burst through on goal but Cousar was off his line quickly and made himself large as the home forward clattered an effort by the left post when he should have scored.
Defender Nicky Jamieson claimed there was a Cambuslang handball during one free kick that was delivered into the home box but to no avail.
Fleet footed passing from Stuart Davidson's side resulted in Gary Fleming blazing in an effort which seemed goalbound but a Cambuslang defender managed to stick out a foot and flip the ball high in the air, and Scott Adam then lunged forward with a header which was dramatically cleared off the line by a defender.
The remainder of the half saw the game turn into a midfield battle with few chances other than Gemmell's effort which he blasted home for the hosts but the offside flag had already been raised.
Thistle opened the scoring early in the second half and it was a top passing move which left Cambuslang on the backfoot.
Iain Fisher drove forward down the right wing, and diagonally darted into the box, knocking the ball on to Adam who cleverly flicked the ball on to Jamie Campbell in space, breaking through on the right.
As the Cambuslang management frantically called for offside, Campbell controlled the ball in style before delivering a crisp volley on the angle from close range with keeper Ian Stewart getting a touch but couldn't keep it out on 50 minutes.
The goal gave Largs inner belief and they really took control of matters after that with Ryan McKie going close, hitting the sidenetting.
Scott Adam's header for a corner was somehow cleared off the line as Largs were looking for a second goal.
And Thistle scored from the spot on 64 minutes after McKie was chopped down as he raced through on the left hand side during another dangerous counter.
Defender Mark Stanton was ordered off as it was his second bookable challenge, and Adam stepped up to fire the penalty into the net with a measure of confidence befitting of the Thistle top scorer with 19 goals.
Cambuslang did not let their heads drop though and Gemmell managed to break through but uncharacteristically blazed over from a great position.
Largs rounded off the scoring in sensational fashion and it was the John Carter, who had come off the bench, who delivered a low drive from ten yards which incredibly ricocheted off both posts, and landed kindly at the feet of fellow sub Kevin Struthers who lashed the ball into the empty net.
This really set off the Thistle celebrations on 86 minutes as Struthers ran over to celebrate at the away dug-out with supporters.
Thistle are now in a great position to go and finish the job in the chase for a direct promotion place, and with a chance of silverware in the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup too, it has really been an excellent week.
Two more league games on the road should provide no fears at all after overcoming teams of the calibre of Hurlford and Cambuslang on their travels.
But no stone can be left unturned, and as the the tricky Larkhall game showed a week before, a maximum effort is required to get over the finishing line in this fascinating promotion race.
Largs: Cousar. Fisher, McMaster, Gilbride, Jamieson, Campbell, Muir, Fleming, Adam, McWaters, McKie. Subs: Struthers, Orr, Carter, Grayston, McVey.
