Inverclyde Sports Centre were host to the Largs Gasshuku last weekend, an annual gathering of karate enthusiasts who had coaching from 8th Dan, Katherine Loukopoulos, a world class athlete. They also had a full weekend of session delivered by Sensei Kenneth Davis.
· The SYFA were running a coach residential over the weekend with a number of coaches from youth teams across the country attending, luckily the sun was shining and they got use of the pitches and the classrooms.
· This week the centre welcome Silverwood Primary, St John’s Primary and Loudoun Montgomery Primary to the centre for their residential trips. Loudoun Montgomery pupils recently won the Jet2 Ultimate School Trip and got to fly to Majorca for a long weekend with their class, so we only hope Inverclyde and Cumbrae can live up to the expectations following that!
· The gymnastics summer residential camps are available to book, with a boys competitive, girls competitive and a mixed recreational camp for children to attend. These are 5 day residential trips during the summer holidays focusing on gymnastics and having a lot of fun.
Gymnastics Manager Allan McKinnon said: “The gymnastics camps are a great way to both fill some time during the summer holidays but also give your children a bit of focused time on the sport they love. We offer camps for both competing gymnasts and also recreational level gymnasts so something for everyone. Everything is under one roof now at the national centre and it creates a really safe and secure environment for those who perhaps haven’t been away from home yet. We’ve got an action packed programme!”
There is a video to watch all about the camps and applications forms on our website; nationalcentreinverclyde.org.uk/gymnastics
· Works are ongoing at Inverclyde Sports Centre to make the tennis courts more accessible.
The car park will be extended. with wider paths leading to the courts, with a seamless transition all the way to the Weir 3G from the car park and pavement, with the removal of steps.
At the tennis courts themselves, there will be an installation of a ramp from the tennis court car park to the court level
New steps are also being put in to help other users also so everyone can access from the same point
These plans are part of the centre wide landscape plans to ensure that the whole centre, not just the building, are inclusive and that everyone will be able to use our facilities with ease.
