Fresh from completing a Magnificent Seven victory run which saw Largs gain promotion to the Premier, Stuart Davidson's side take on the might of Kilwinning Rangers in Saturday's Ayrshire Cup Final.

It is a 2pm kick-off at Meadow Park, Irvine, for the big clash, and Largs have no fears going into the game, having already defeated Hurlford and Kilbirnie on their way to the showpiece final.

Davidson said: "We have already shown what we are capable of and the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup final is another chance for us to give our all.

"The boys are ready to go into the Premier and push, and if we can keep this squad, and strengthen in a few areas, who knows what can happen."

Largs were left hanging on a week after the rest of the teams had fulfilled their league fixtures and won at Guys Meadow thanks to a fifth minutes strike by John Carter.

Asked if he realised that Largs would need to win seven out of seven to secure a prized promotion place to the top flight, Davidson said: "

"I knew it was going to be hard. I wouldn't have thought we could have won seven in a row as this league is a very hard league, It is competitive at the best of times, but because of there were more prizes up for grabs, it was even harder.

"To finish joint second, and to be beaten on goal difference into third, is a fantastic achievement for the boys, specially given at one point we looked to be out of the race, and to go all these games unbeaten and with a lot of clean sheets as well is just brilliant.

"I am so happy for the boys."

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

"When I said in last week's newspaper, I would have taken 1-0 at Cumbernauld like we did three years ago in The Great Escape season, I think some of the boys took me literally!

"I thought we had a lot of chances to possibly make it a bit easier on us.

"Three points is three points - John scored a good opener. He has had a few injuries to contend with but had a wee run of games, and scored a cracking goal to see us on our way.

"The strength of competition upfront is strong with Adam, Carter, McWaters, McKie and Struthers.

"That competition has been a big part in our promotion.

"Alex McWaters is going on about hitting the post and the bar - he has great technique and he was very unlucky not to score.

"Ten men is murder to play against at times, and to be fair to Cumbernauld it wasn't going to effect them in the league either way, but they made it very hard for us, and that is the way it should be - credit to them for that.

"After the first couple of games this season, we had some injuries and suspensions, and I felt a lot of things went against us this season, and sometimes you have to just put your sleeves up and accept it, and work hard to get on with it.

"We are trying to play good attacking football and be solid in defence.

"As a team and as a unit, they have been fantastic, and it is not just about defence, the full team have to defend from the front and we have made it really hard for teams."

"The work of assistant manager Martin Crawford, coaches  Liam McVey and Andy Scott and physio Valentina Mazzoni has been a really big help for me.

"It has been very stable for me this year and they have done great for us.

"The hopes for next season is to compete well in the league - we want to give a good account of ourselves on a weekly basis and take it from there and let's see what we can do."
