Carrick 4-2 Largs Thistle AFC
Largs Amateurs exited the Donsport Trophy at the first round on Saturday, despite a battling performance.
Ryan McMunn confidently swept home a left foot finish from the edge of the 18-yard box to put Largs 1-0 up.
Carrick equalised almost immediately with a close range header and quickly added a further two goals. The pace and trickery of the Carrick front line were causing Largs problems, but the visitors were still creating chances. Credit to the home keeper who pulled off a stunning reflex save to turn the ball over the cross bar.
Largs keeper Alistair Deans collided with a Carrick forward, and suffered a head injury, resulting in Brendan Hill taking over the goalkeeping gloves.
The home side converted a second half penalty, but Largs didn’t give up the fight and pulled a goal back when McMunn latched on to a poor back pass and rounded the goalkeeper, before slotting home.
It’s a return to league business on Saturday for the local side, as they host table-toppers Catrine.
Largs: Deans, Robson, Campbell, Turley, Hawkins, McMunn, Russell, Dunlop, Mills, McGregor, Smith. Subs: Cockerill, Connelly, Fraser, Galbraith, Hill.
