Drongan 1 - 7 Largs Thistle AFC

In what is traditionally regarded as one of the toughest away fixtures on the AAFA Division 2 schedule, quality finishing and competent defending allowed Largs to run out as comfortable winners.

The game burst into life with a goal of Messi-esque proportions. Centre half Davie Mitchell won the ball deep inside his own half with a trademark robust challenge, before slaloming his way past five Drongan players into the opposing box and firing high into the net.

The lead didn't last long when a deflected Drongan shot found its way into the Largs net against the run of play.

AFC bounced back quickly when ex Dalry Thistle marksman, David Mills latched on to an incisive Scott Cameron pass, before firing home low into the bottom corner.

Largs doubled their lead shortly after with an exquisite free kick despatched cooly into the top left corner by the increasingly influential Fraser Russell.

Drongan, under new management, did offer a threat going forward, but an impressively solid display from the Largs rear guard of Sewell, Campbell, Connor and Mitchell, ensured Cunningham in goals was rarely troubled.

Meanwhile at the other end, a Robb header from point blank range was spectacularly saved by the Drongan number 1.

Knowing the game was far from over, Largs began the second half where they left off and were soon further ahead.

Russell again displayed his dead ball credentials, this time as provider, whipping in an inviting free kick for Mills to head home.

The second half saw the introduction of Hill, Galbraith and Riddell as Largs took firm control of the match. Good work on the right hand side by Clark allowed Sean Robb to tee up veteran midfielder Cockerill for the fifth.

Substitute Hill pounced on a loose ball to prod home the sixth and that man Mills completed the perfect hat trick, with a neat left foot finish in the closing stages.

As proceedings wound down, Drongan saw two players receive their marching orders.

Next up is a home league fixture against Craigie at Barrfields on 10 December.

The club would like to thank JG Sharps and the Largs Thistle Community for their continued sponsorship and support.
