The continuing success and ethos of the new Largs Thistle Community Club was summed up within only one minute of the recent Thistle friendly at Port Glasgow.

Jay Little seized his opportunity within 60 seconds by scoring a 'peach of a goal' after being called up, and although the Barrfields outfit went on to lose 3-1 last Wednesday, it was an important ray of hope for the future.

Thistle U19s manager Andy McGill has praised Jay for making an immediate impact, and believes more of the players have the opportunity to step up in future.

Of course the focus for the U19s is on winning the Paisley, Johnstone and District third division title, and are currently sitting top of the tree at the turn of the year.

Andy said: "The key to the success so far has been that we have managed to get a strong squad and there is a good bond between the players. We finished strongly at the end of last season, and have taken it one step further with intense training sessions, and the boys are fitter and playing well."

Andy describes the squad as follows:

Calum Little - last season's regular keeper, and improving on a weekly basis - attitude and commitment is spot on.

Adam McElroy - took over the no.1 spot in recent weeks, and has done really well. It is good to have strong competition vying for the keeper's gloves.

Craig McGill and Ethan Reid - A solid central defensive partnership throughout the season.

Ross McCall - right-back, a solid performer but hasn't featured so much recently as at university.

Jack Trainer - a right-back who has improved his game immensely and is doing his coaching badges to help the Largs Thistle U14s.

Adam Paterson McKeen - captain and driving force of the midfield, and leads by example.

Jay Little - caught the eye of Largs Thistle manager Stuart Davidson, and has been training with the senior team. He is top scorer with double figures from midfield.

Jack Rafferty - Another wee diamond and has potential to go and play for Largs Thistle in a couple of years - attitude is excellent from middle of park

Finlay Templeton - Solid performer good and very dominating in the air - a strong addition to the squad

Ross Colquhoun - has been out injured with groin injury during the last four weeks and had a groin op. A great left foot and scored a few goals, with pace to burn.

Jack Petrie - Another addition at the start of the season, and can score match winning goals.

Neil Jones - Another addition who played the first eight games undefeated before heading to university - a strong player.

Caleb Reid - One of the best strikers in town, and has already been at Celtic, Aberdeen and Morton - has direct running and eye for goal.

Lloyd Dicks - A mainstay of team last season, and the team very much relied on his goals, a solid and committed player. 'Mr Reliable'.

Dylan Smith - Has recently returned to the team, and is a strong player, and could be very important in the run-in.

Chesur Chakar - A big strong centre froward and has that knack of being in the right place at the right time to score important goals.

Lewis Grierson - A very important squad player, and has had some niggling injuries this season.

Matthew Ashe - Largs Thistle agreed to release Matthew back to U19s to get game time, and has made a great impact, a very strong player who dominates games and could bring the team on to the next level.

Andy concluded: "We tried to instill to the boys that we are in the middle of something special, and by working hard at training over the coming months, we have every chance of going on to win the league."
