Largs Thistle U19s 1 Port Glasgow 2
The Thistle young stars of the future lost out in an action packed encounter at Barrfields with red cards, dramatic saves, and Largs thwarted by the crossbar as they chased a late equaliser.
Port Glasgow opened on the front foot and were carving out some dangerous opportunities, with Thistle keeper Calum Murray diving at full stretch to make a magnificent fingertip save to deny Port taking the lead.
However, the high intensity of Port Glasgow's play continued as they took the lead with a quick attack, and cross leaving their forward with the simple job of despatching into the back of the net.
There were angry scenes as Thistle defender Matthew Ashe saw red for his second bookable offence, although the Largs camp believed a Port player should also have seen red moments earlier.
Although Largs had been on the backfoot, they were creating good openings, and Ross Colquhoun beat his man down the left hand side and smashed in a dangerous shot across face of goal.
And as half-time approached, Caleb Reid teed up Colquhoun whose drilled effort was brilliantly flipped over bar by the Port keeper.
Port then smashed a fierce half volley which bounced off the crossbar.
On 48 minutes, the visitors move 2-0 up as their forward was given too much space to launch a deep effort which evaded Murray's grasp at the left post.
Port were also reduced to ten men as Largs halved the deficit thanks to Reid's header from a Lloyd Dicks' nod on with eight minutes left on the clock.
Thistle's Jay Little rattled the crossbar with a late free kick as Port Glasgow held on to a valuable victory in the top of the table battle.
