Thistle under 17s proved worthy winners against last season’s league winners on Sunday.
Largs started brightly as Cameron Ferguson saw a header from a Greg Kean corner just clear the crossbar and then Jack had a strike from twenty yards rise just over the bar.
With the half running out, Griffins got to the ball just ahead of the advancing keeper to prod the ball under him, only to see it cleared off the line.
Early in the second half, Allen played a ball between centre back and full back for Liam Stewart to run onto but his shot went wide.
Thistle continued to press with Lee McShane free in the box but his header went wide from twelve yards.
Largs keeper Kenefick was called into action, pulling off a tremendous block.
Largs finally got the goal their dominance deserved in seventy five minutes. Ferguson played the ball into the feet of Griffins inside the box. Griffins was blocked out by the defenders but the ball broke to Ferguson who calmly side footed it home.
Thistle didn’t sit back with Jamie Grant and Iain Bell creating chances in the dying minutes.
Jamie Morgan and Cammy Florence were immense at the heart of the defence, and comfortably saw the game out. Boss Ally Burns praised the players after the game, saying it was the club’s best display of the season to date.
Team: Kenefick, Grant, Kean, Florence, Morgan, Stewart, Jack, Ferguson, Griffins, Allen and Graham Subs: Bell, Devine, Mauchlen, McShane and Mills
