West Coast Thistle 4 Cambria B 2 West Coast Thistle ended their first season in the West of Scotland Amateur League on a high when they entertained Cambria (B) at Bowencraig on Saturday afternoon in the Colin Munro Cup.

Goals from Craig Cousar, Martin Dunlop, Robert McNeilage and Ian Gillie ensured that Thistle picked up all three points. Unfortunately after drawing last week's match Thistle could not claim top spot in the group stages and progress into the next round.

After some heavy rain on Friday the pitch at Bowencraig was in near perfect condition which allowed a free flowing game of football to take place. Thistle welcomed back top goalscorer Aaron Alexander after a lengthy spell out due to an knee injury, and Jamie McDowell returned after missing last week's game due to other commitments.

Thistle started the match with the same team that drew with Dynamo Strathaven the previous week 1-1 with Cousar scoring the Thistle goal.

Cambria B who play in Division 2 caused some problems for WCT early in the first half. Thistle found themselves behind after 20 minutes from a set piece. Craig Cousar levelled the score after taking advantage from a rebound from Cambria Keeper saving from Scott Fraser (wee man) from close range. Again Thistle were caught out by another set piece, Malloch came looking for the ball however mistimed his run and allowed the Cambria player to score.

Thistle levelled the game again, this time a long throw by Gillie to the front post was headed home by Martin Dunlop.

In the second half Thistle came out a different team. Gillie was next on the scoresheet for Thistle, Macdonald with some fine play down the right somehow managed to keep the ball in play (others thought differently) crossed the ball to the back post where an unmarked Gillie slotted the ball into the net. Thistle had some more chances with Macdonald and Black going close.

Goal of the match came from a 25 yard freekick from McNeilage, the Thistle striker fired the ball low and hard through the wall and let the Cambria keeper with no chance. Subs Turley, Findlay and Alexander replaced Cousar, Fraser and McNeilage.

Man of the Match goes to Andy Black with an impressive performance.
