Drongan United 2 Largs 3 Largs produced a rousing performance to fight back from two goals down to win all three points when they travelled to league leaders Drongan on Saturday.

Player manager Stephen Quigg brought himself back into the side in midfield, and scored a dramatic winning goal, having to make amends for an earlier error, With seemingly minimal danger Quigg attempted to head the ball back to his own keeper from 30 yards. The header was short and with confusion between McGowan and Dunlop as to who would deal with it, the striker nipped in between them to score.

Largs began to try and find a way back into the game and were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when the Drongan defender caught Marshall in the hip with his studs up when he was beaten to the ball by the Largs midfielder. However the referee waved play on. Drongan then doubled their advantage when an unmarked player planted a free header into the net from a corner on 20 minutes. Things were to get worse for Largs, as before the game could restart, McKillop had to limp off with a hamstring injury - being replaced by McMillan.

Hill had the home keeper scrambling back onto his line to stop his speculative volleyed effort from 35 yards. The away side did pull a goal back before the interval though with a superb curling freekick from Hillier.

The second half began with Largs on top and Drongan looking to hit on the counter-attack. The experienced duo of Quigg and Alford marshalled the midfield well and dealt with the battling Drongan players, allowing the attackers to try and fashion chances to equalise.

With ten minutes to go a corner from McMunn was met by the head of Marshall who flicked it across goal - finding McGowan running in at the far post - who smashed in from close range. The home side were rattled as Largs pressed on looking for a winner, which arrived shortly after. Once again the away side got down the left flank and a cross found Mills who controlled well before teeing up Quigg who hit an exquisite 30 yard shot with the outside of his foot which curled into the corner of the net with the keeper rooted.

There was still time for the Drongan goalkeeper to be sent off as he questioned the award of a free-kick.

Largs face Ochiltree United at Inverclyde on Saturday, and would like to thank MacAulay’s bar for their continual support throughout the season.
