Largs Academy 3 Carrick Academy 2 Largs Academy performed an extraordinary comeback to crush Carrick's hopes, and take all the plaudits in this Under 16 Ayrshire Cup final at Dam Park, Ayr.

It was the South Ayrshire side who looked in command, scoring with only four minutes on the clock thanks to a neat move and finish after casual defending.

And Largs gave themselves a mountain to climb as they fell 2-0 behind after a corner wasn't cleared, and the ball was drilled low into the back of the net on the 23rd minute.

Blair Docherty cracked home a superb free kick off the underside off the crossbar on 31 minutes to give Largs a lifeline - and it was game on!

The offside flag was raised on the stroke of half-time as a Carrick free-kick was tucked home at the second attempt by a wayward forward.

And four minutes into the second half, Rafferty's ball through on the right found Ross McKay who clinically finished with a diagonal effort.

With 15 minutes to go, the comeback was complete as great work down the left allowed Jay Little to blaze through and he hoodwinked the keeper with a quick shot into the near corner to let the celebrations begin.

Largs were in control in the final stages, and could have added to their lead, and when the full time whistle went, there was a massive cheer from the Academy crowd, watched on by proud head teacher Heather Burns.

Congratulations go to coach Martin Traynor for immaculate organisation, and hopefully there is much more to come from this exciting young side who, after a nervy opening spell, soon hit their stride, and won the match with aplomb.

Largs Academy: McKee, Colquhoun, Traynor, Hambleton, Cairnes, Little, Mackay, Rafferty, Mckeen, Docherty, Smith, Subs: Chakar, Kerr, Merrimen.
