A football memorial match is taking place in memory of Largs man Colin Sutherland at the Barrfields 3G on Saturday 4 July kicking off at 1pm.

The teams which are taking part are the old JG Sharp’s side vs a local select side.

Everybody is more than welcome to attend the drinks, cup and man of the match presentation afterwards which will be held at J.G Sharp’s bar, Nelson Street, Largs. A new man of the match award, see picture, will be presented.

Colin, tragically died in an industrial accident at Hunterston in November 2013, and the football match has been organised by Colin’s friends for a special occasion in his memory. It is the second year of the tournament.

Last year, Sharps AFC beat a Largs Sunday League select side 4-1. The contest was certainly a lot closer than the scoreline suggested, with the goals coming courtesy of Andrew Scott x2, Robert McLeod & Gary Fairlie, with Neil Menzies replying for the select, and Scott Cairns of Sharps picking up the man of the match award, but this is about more than just a football game.
