A new Largs Thistle under 19 squad play their first official match on Saturday in a friendly game against Faversham Town, 3pm kick-off at Barrfields, free entry.

The new set-up has been organised by Andrew McGill, who will be running the side, which will play at Barrfields 3G and Bowen Craig in the Paisley, Johnstone and District League every Saturday.

The new club are looking for players born in 1997 and 1998 in all positions to join the new under-19 side - contact Andrew on 07767702297 or andymcgill1@hotmail.co.uk Andrew, who lives in Bellesdale Avenue, said: “Setting up the new under 19 team has created a lot of interest and we have around 18 players so far. We are hoping to entice a lot of local boys to don the Thistle colours and play at Barrfields. It is a great opportunity for young boys, and there is always the chance you might get spotted. I don’t like to use the term feeder team, but it gives the management a chance to look at up and coming players, who over the next couple of years might catch the eye.

“There has been a lot of interest through Facebook and Twitter, and I would like to thank the Largs Thistle committee for all their help - Thistle have been 100% supportive and thought it was a wonderful idea to set up an under 19s team and it fits into their community club concept.”
