Bullish Thistle are heading to promoted Pollok on Wednesday evening with the intention of winning - so says acting boss Stuart Davidson, who may take over the reins from Bryan Slavin on Wednesday due to illness.

It is a 7pm kick-off at Newlandsfield Park for the crunch encounter, and Largs then face another critical game at third placed Cumbernauld on Saturday, 2pm kick-off, as the bid for ‘The Great Escape’ continues.

Stuart Davidson is likely to take over the reins for Wednesday night’s Pollok clash, as Bryan Slavin is off work ill at the moment.

Speaking to the ‘News’ Stuart said Largs would need to be at the ready from the off after conceding two early goals to Pollok in their last league defeat.

He said: “We have told the boys we are not happy with the way we have been starting the last couple of games, Maybe we have weathered the storm at the start of the games, but we need to start better.

“We are going to Pollok to win. Some people have said if we beat Thorniewood in our last game, and try and pick up points here and there at Pollok and Cumbernauld that would be good, but our intention is to go there and win, as we feel at the moment that we can win whoever we play against.

“It is refreshing to see the players scoring a lot of goals, and they are beginning to reap the rewards..” Stuart praised skipper Struthers for his first Barrfields hat-trick on Saturday, and said: “It was great to see Kevin to get his hat-trick, and also said to ‘Slick’ - James Marks does a lot of work up there, we don’t miss the work he does, and Kevin thanked him as he himself did that for years, and Sean Pierce and Alan Frizzell showed that they are building a good partnership.

“The boys can play - we have maybe been a bit direct with the players, and urged them to get the ball forward at every opportunity but once the ball is up there, the boys have scored some good goals, and from set-pieces as well so that is encouraging."
