Thistle assistant boss Arnie is delighted to get the winning feeling back, and has urged Largs to keep the momentum going into the Shotts game this Saturday.

The league leaders head to Hannah Park for a 2pm kick-off as Largs hope to get back-to-back victories for the first time since November.

Shotts were beaten 4-0 at home against a high-scoring Kilwinning side last weekend, and although Largs can take nothing for granted after a difficult winter period, Thistle re-discovered their form in the second half on Saturday to overcome Kilsyth.

And Arnie, a.k.a Stuart Davidson, said: "Getting that winning feeling back was important - we told the boys beforehand to forget about the league table and just go out and concentrate on a win.

"I was reading that it was November since our last week, we have had games off, friendlies and and some league games, but the players have been made aware that it has not been good enough for the standards we set at the start of the season, so it was good to get back on track."

And the Thistle assistant manager has praise for the two forwards on the scoresheet. He said: "Kevin Struthers has been out injured but he knows where to get to in terms of positioning and was at the right place at the right time for both goals.

"We have been telling Alan Frizzell that his greatest strength is playing on the shoulders of defenders - it was a great ball through from Jamie McDonald which helped set him up, and a super finish."

"We always like to start at a good high tempo but we were disappointed in the players in the first half as we got the opening goal which I thought we deserved, but didn't kick on from there. We downed tools, and let Kilsyth back in the match. We got the next two goals at a good time.

"Kilsyth had to commit and try and get a goal back and it left some gaps, and it was something I feel we didn't take full advantage of.

"We have been at the top of the league for a wee while and some maybe thought we were going to move down the way, so to get the result, was great."

Shotts will represent a different challenge, and play on a wide park. Arnie remarked; "I am expecting a really tough game with heavy conditions. The fact that their game against Kilwinning went ahead on Saturday suggests that the pitch will be heavy, but we will be going there with a positive attitude, and at the minute, we have lots of options with Piercey, Frizz, Slick (James Marks) and Struthers."

Thistle kicked off season 2015/16 with a narrow 1-0 win over Shotts at Barrfields Park thanks to a James Marks header from a Gary Phillips cross late in the game. Even at this stage of the season, there is little room for error, with Kilwinning on high scoring form, while in-form Cumnock have games in hand in which to catch up with Thistle, and second placed Clydebank remain ever dangerous. There are two promotion spots up for a grabs, and a third place play-off.

* Largs will be hoping to improve their cup fortunes as they have been drawn away to Dalmellington's 'Craigmark Burntonians' in the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup, on a date still to be fixed. Thistle won the trophy in 2013 with a 3-0 win over Cumnock at Bellsdale Park in the final. Despite Thistle's table topping form this season, Bryan Slavin's side were knocked out of both Scottish and West of Scotland Cup in the early rounds. Largs last played Craigmark in 2004-05 season in the Ayrshire District League, although they have met on cup business since.

If Largs overcome Craigmark, they could travel to travel to Ayrshire league leaders Irvine Vics or Kello Rovers in the next round of the cup.
