Largs take a break from league duty this Saturday and head to district side Craigmark Burntonians in the first round of the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup, 2pm kick-off at Station Park, Dalmellington. The team bus leaves Barrfields at 11.45am (reserve a seat by phoning Don on 675405).
Thistle are seven points clear in the McBookie.com Super West 1st Division.
And sitting in the dug-out last Saturday was a new face in Drew Walsh, former Saltcoats Vics boss, who has joined the coaching set-up at Thistle. Stuart Davidson, a.k.a Arnie, was unavailable due to a family engagement.
Drew said: "I think if you asked any teams in the top five which position you would like to be in, I think everyone would say Largs. If there are two or three games a week come April, it takes its toll. We are under no illusions, we want to finish as high up the league as possible. We want to win the league, and sometimes people are scared to admit that, but it is not a problem to want to be successful, and to be hungry for success, and there is nothing wrong with that. Promotion would be a relative success, but the reality is we want to win the league.
"Without patting Bryan and Arnie too much on the back, but they have taken essentially the same team from last year and turned it into a winning team, and the players are responding, and I am trying my best to help us towards our goal."
* Largs Thistle are hosting a race night fundraiser at the masonic hall on Saturday starting at 7pm. There will also be a curry and a disco on the evening. Head along and support the club!
