Largs gaffer Bryan Slavin has congratulated Cumnock on Wednesday's McBookie.com Super West 1st Division win, but says there is plenty for Theesel fans to be happy about after promotion to the Premier.

Cumnock secured the championship after a 4-1 victory at home to Cumbernauld United, nudging Largs into second spot, albeit on goal difference. Largs had been leading the way at the top of the table since September.

Bryan said: "I didn't have any great expectation Cumnock were going to drop any points at this stage as you are playing teams who don't need the points for anything. It is a lot easier to dis-spirit them or break them down - the likes of Shotts or Cumbernauld put up a bit of a fight initially then lost goals just before half-time. I sent a message to Cumnock manager John McKeown to congratulate Cumnock on their title win.

"There is no disappointment from our end whatsoever - we continue to be positive. When you look at it, those two late goals for us at Kilsyth, changed everything. We could have been sitting in fourth spot, as even a draw at Kilsyth, would have given Clydebank fresh impetus too. Every result affects everything else.

"I am delighted we got up when we got up, it was an incredible achievement that we were the first ones to go up out of the chasing pack. That is an achievement on its own right, and after that it was out of our hands, so we have to be happy with our lot

"That is not to say that we are satisfied to finish second at any point, but we need to be happy with our acheivement, enjoy it for what it is, and quickly re-focus for next year.

"Cumnock have won the league - and to win the league under any circumstances is a great achievement

"Given we have finished joint top, and lost out on goal difference, and given where we have come from last season, we have got to be happy."

The Thistle boss had set out his aim last August on Largs winning the league championship.

However, Bryan said: "I did target a title win at the start of the season, and that may have been a lofty expectation, but I was always confident in our squad.

"We will celebrate the achievement, but we will never settle for second place, we don't want to ever get into that comfort zone, as it would affect everything else we do.

"We must continue to strive to be better, we need to be in top league, as that is the correct mental approach, and to continue to push ourselves as hard as possible."
