Congratulations to Largs Golf Club who are the 2017 Ayrshire Seniors League champions following an extremely close battle with Kilbirnie Place, which was only decided at the last fixture of the season.

In the final match of the season, Largs needed a victory over Troon Welbeck at Troon to take the title ahead of Kilbirnie and the Largs team delivered with a 4 - 1 win in the match to secure the championship on points difference, after ending the table tied with Kilbirnie Place on 20 points.

* The sun shone brightly for this year’s competition making for a very enjoyable round of golf. With some good scoring in the greensomes format, Rona Wilson and her partner Caryn Sinclair were worthy winners with a score of 70.5.

* Daily Mail Foursomes ... Margaret Brown and Janette Stark will represent the club in the Daily Mail 4s after winning the club qualifying round.

* Championship Finals day took place earlier in the summer. The gents played in tricky wet conditions in the morning ‘improving’ to damp weather for all finalists in the afternoon. In spite of the weather, the players displayed fine golf to reward the spectators for braving the ‘dreich’ day. In the Gents’ Championship David McLellan emerged victorious over reigning champion, David MacDonald while Deborah Barton defeated Lauren Gilbert to become Ladies’ Champion. Michael Leahy won against Sandy Clare in the Bob Gunn Memorial Trophy with Margaret Brown beating Jan Dow to claim the Ladies Bronze Bucket.

* Upcoming events ...the Medal (Ladies & Gents) takes place on Saturday, and the Stableford (Ladies & Gents) is due to take place on Wednesday October 11. The Lady's Past Captains dinner takes place on Friday October 13.
