Thistle boss Stuart Davidson is delighted with the side's preparations heading into an important two weeks of the season after securing a 2-2 draw at Premier side Beith during a friendly on Tuesday evening.

Largs face a testing two weeks away to Renfrew this Saturday, 2pm kick-off at New Western Park, before their Scottish Cup adventure to Sauchie on the following weekend.

For Renfrew, Thistle will be missing defender Creag Little who is sitting out the last game of his suspension, keeper Ross Lundy with ankle ligament injury, and top scorer Scott Adam who is away on honeymoon.

The Largs boss, nicknamed 'Arnie', said he was content with the team's display at Beith going into these games.

He said: "It was a worthwhile exercise as we knew playing against a team like Beith was going to be hard, and we could have got a win but it is not about that, it is about getting the boys match fit and up to scratch going into the Renfrew game.

"It was a good game to watch, and we went 1-0 up on 25 minutes, and it was a good goal from Stephen Burden who broke from midfield and finished brilliantly. Beith scored twice in the last five minutes and it was a couple of cracking goals from their point of view, but Martin Orr got in a great run behind their defence and was taken down for a penalty which he converted right on full-time.

"Over the piece it was a very good competitive game; we soaked up a lot of pressure but we defended really well and when we broke, we were unlucky not to score more. Jamie Campbell is back playing which is great so it adds more strength to the midfield. Gary Fleming had a niggle but he said he is playing fine, and keeper Sean Graham is back and should be fit for Saturday."

Striker Joel Kasabundi had a knock but looked sharp when he came on against Beith, and Liam McVey, who hurt his calf and had to subbed against Cumbernauld, is back to fitness.

Winger Ryan McKie, who impressed in the friendlies, has been injured for two months, but will be getting a knee scan this week.

Looking at Saturday's challenge, Arnie said: Renfrew have started the season well and have some good players. We have watched them a bit and seen their threats but I believe we have the players who can go and get a result. We need to start going to these places and getting results.

"This last two games have given us a good boost, we could have just been training, but I think the performances will give us a boost going into Saturday's game.

"Although the Port Glasgow and Beith games were draws, we have been scoring goals, and it is important when we go away fro home to stay tight at the back, and take our chances."
