Kirsty Cameron (Skate2Success) was delighted to win the award.
A former international athlete, she has competed in shows across Europe and teaches Skate2Success at Auchenharvie at least five days a week, rising as early as 4am (Her alarm was set for 3.55am for the next morning after the sports awards!)
Kirsty said: “I am absolutely thrilled. At last year’s awards, one of my students was nominated for young sports personality of the year, and he was hearing impaired, so it was fantastic to be nominated as coach, and also to have our students recognised. My inspiration is Margaret Walker from Ayrshire College.”
North Ayrshire Provost Ian Clarkson said: “Kirsty is a wonderful young person and very worthy of the award - she is brilliant.”
Kirsty coaches international and national level athletes and in her role as GB coach has taken athletes to compete across Europe, and has a drive to promote inclusive skating for people with disabilities and impairments.
